ES model with the climate control switches.

When I turn on the climate control panel the blower automatically turns on to full power regardless of the switch position.

I now have to turn the thing off all the time or have the blower on full - nothing in between.

Any ideas (apart from its broken).
 
Yeah, it's broken....

Would have thought a new climate control 'panel' might sort it?

What does the panel display? Does it 'think' the blower is running at full speed, but won't let you change it, or does it think the blower is running more slowly?

regardless of where the switch position is,full power blower when the panel is switched on.

Position 0 - full power

Position 1 - full power

Position 2 - full power

Position 3 - full power
 
Have you tried switching the AC and recircluate buttons on and off? Mine gets confused now and again and blasts air out of everywhere (although with mine it could be user error)

Yip - tried all the buttons, pulled the fuse etc

Think i'll take the panel out tomorrow but dont think there will be much to tinker with there.
 
Google discovery breakers, last sodbury I went to they had hundreds of em, think they were like a tenner each, worth a try!!!
 
Update:

Tried a new control panel off Ebay for £35, they range from £35 to £170.
Unfortunately still have the same problem. Panel will be listed in the for sale section as no use to me.

Anyone any other ideas
 
Quick update

Resistor pack has been checked as much as possible, would appear that the problem lies with the power transistor fitted to the heat sink.
Problem is that the part number has worn off the transistor and cant find any trace of it in any manual.
A complete new part from Land Rover is around £100.
Would rather replace the transistor is possible, anyone have any idea of the number of it or where I could source one, seem a few repair kits but none for the TD5 Discovery
 
Further Update

Blower Motor, Resistor Pack and relays all changed - still the same fault

Any more ideas.

Think about this:
In the defrost mode, the ATC ECU sets the inlet air source to fresh air, the blower to maximum speed, the air distribution to windscreen and side windows, and outputs signals to the BCU to operate the rear window heater and (where fitted) the windscreen heater. The BCU starts or, if the heaters are already on, resets the heater timers and energises the rear window and windscreen heaters for a complete on cycle.

Blower controlThe ATC ECU operates a blower relay, power transistor and power relay to run the blower at one of 31 stepped speeds. All speed steps are available in the automatic modes of blower control. In the manual mode, speed steps 3, 10, 16, 22 and 31 are used to provide slow, three intermediate and fast blower speeds. The ATC ECU energises the blower relay and modulates the power transistor to operate the blower for speed steps 1 to 30. For speed step 31, the ATC ECU energises the power relay, which switches the earth side of the blower motor direct to earth, bypassing the power transistor.

Also there are 2 temperature sensors(evaporator and ambient) if one of them is faulty it could mess things up
