Decided to fit a new Battery to my 1999 TD5 Discovery,I bought what i think was a really good battery Bosch all ways use them,£86.It was a job trying to get the battery with the red and black terminals in the correct standard position but i managed.Open bonnet put socket on the metal holding bracket worked the nuts until they "snap" offfff.Take battery out run a die nut down the remaining threads went into my garage switched lathe on and turned down some alloy bar threaded the center and screwed them on the 2 j bolts things,Now all ready to install the new battery,Lowered it in and as it was a fatter battery would not go all the way to the bottom of the battery case,Lift it out again then made a wooden lift panel put that into the plastic batt box,Lower batt but the sticking up j bolts were now interfering with the sides of the batt so lift out the batt again get bolt cutters cutt of the sticking up j bolts ( And my lathe work mods ) Fit batt in there again all now OK except i now have to cutt a length of angle alloy drill holes towards the ends and make some more j bolts hook one on the inner wing and one to the right hand side of plastic batt box tighten every thing up and switch on ,,Spun it over really great.4 Bloody hours to fit a new battery !The battery i removed was a crappy chepo Newmax the previous owner had fitted WHY do people buy those cheap nasty useless batteries is beyond my imagination.
