hi everyone,i have looked on the fourm for this thread,and cant seem to find anything,and anything i do find is about 15 billion years old! all i was wondering is has anyone else done this with thair landy,and is it any good? and also where do all the little pipes from the distributor go to(vacume and breather pipes) this will only be a show/weekend car for me eventualy in the summer,so im not bothered about fuel consumption! :D

Don't think it'll make a huge difference (other than worsening throttle response at low revs) the twin SU set up breathes quite well on a stock 3.5. When I used to tweak Rover V8s in the old days (mainly fitting them to other cars) we'd only change the carbs after the heads had been ported and a hotter cam fitted, usually went for a Holley 390 four barrel.
 
okaie dokie,well cheers for the reply mate,will have a think on that one,it was fitted with stronbergs origonaly, but these are shot,and just fancied abit of an upgrade! i was looking at the holley 390 cfm carbs this afternoon tho,and the elderbrook carbs! i did think there wasnt any point in putting a standard cam in it,with a preformance carb,so i might rethink what cam i use! thanks for the reply tho,much appriciated! :D
 
if you after performance then retro fit the injection system..

cheaper,and better.

Fitted one to a 3.5 engine, ran fine, much better than the 390 Holley I took off. Every one I know that has a Rover V8 engined car that runs a carb uses a Edelbrock 500. Basicly just two twin choke Webbers (cos thats who makes them) next to each other. Check out the RPI (love em or hate em) site. Rover engines power more than Landys. You can down/up jet them easily if needed and very easy and quick to clean out. 5.7lt Chevy engines use the 600, again eveyone uses them. Not saying the EFI setup is bad, but if its carbs you want then Edelbrock all the way.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if I'm out of touch carbs-wise becasue I was doing this 20-30 odd years ago so I'll bow to your knowledge on that matter. I'd still go for EFi though, carbs by their nature have to restrict airflow (to get a low pressure area to draw through the jet) this is why EFi is better for power and economy.
 
well i am half thinking of just refurbishing the carbs at the moment,but i have no idea where to start with wiring in an injection system,what do i have to do? :confused: ino the injection would be a beter option,becuase of the bhp increase,and the better delivery of fuel!
 
iv decided to go with the idea of fuel injection,but dont know weather the 3.9 injection system will fit,it will bolt on i presume,same engine,same manifold,but is it set up differently? and if i get the whole lot in one,do i just plug in and install,and find somewhere for the box(ecu)to go in the footwell? it needs power i presume,has anyone done this before? replys much appriciated! :D

I should imagine it'll be fine.
 
Its easy enough to do,the EFI loom is separate to the rest of the electrics in the donor car.You just need the wiring diagram to make sure you have it all plugged in correctly.
The other big plus with EFI that hasnt been mentioned is that it is unaffected by angles of operation or bumpy ground at high speeds etc - it just keeps on working.4 barrel carbs are fine on a 1/4 mile strip,but no bloody good at all bouncing around an off road track or creeping along the side of a steep bank....
