yeah, I wont take the sprockets off, just stretch it over like a rubber band :p
 
so question is do we trust real steel to buy all from without worrying about there knowledge or quality of parts?
 
I think real steel are more than ok, I mean everyone is stifled by supply of quality parts for the old engines but real steel are competent in my eyes.
 
If it helps, my bodgerific ridge dodger engine is assembled with real steel stuff, I have seen the parts myself, and everything looked swell IMO :)
 
wasnt a load of it allmakes bags?

apparently turner engineering pay a bloke to measure all the rocker arms and make them up in to matched sets (not that I need em with my set up) but it just makes you wonder if other sellers bother to do that??
 
All the all makes stuff came from v8 tuner.

Didn't order that much but the oil pump stuff was all makes.

Not that it really matters who they come through because the same supplier supplies in the first place.

But in that example I used my original pump gears because the worked better than the new ones, better material and machining.

All in all it's a bit of a situation but I guess you have to ring up everyone and evaluate from their answers just how seriously they take they're quality control/parts selection etc, because everyone knows good stuff is limited now!
 
well a bit of progress tonight:

Land Rover Zone - fett's Album: pistons and crank out

the big ends, lower mains and thrust bearings all down to the copper :eek: :p

the bearings were marked .10 so its had a grind but not much, I need to decide if it needs another and if I can trust anyone near here to do it right. I can get .20 bearings from aus but not the the thrust washers- in any form. ideas?

I know its near impossible to tell from the pics but what do you think if the crank, in need of a grind? I was once told if you dragged a 1p over the crank and it left a copper mark it needed doing- it does, however have you noticed that a 1p aint copper all the way through??? :eek: it must be them bastards cost cutting again - they is steel in the middle :p

also thoughts on the bores would be good as I can see the thrust face wear but am yet to measure as run out of time tonight.

coppers int copper anymore cos when they were people used to melt them down and weigh in the copper as it was worth more than the penny was in store ;) Its a steel alloy now and then coated in a copper coloured material IIRC or electroplated in copper one or the other
 
measure crank with a mic ,it looks like it just needs a machine polish ,thrust washers are like that they havent lost white metal

vernier ok to measure crank? i prefer em plus my mic is at my parents lol

Presume some point in the last recession, the midgets dad told me and he's 60 so presume it was when he was a kid

1 thou bigger is better than a poor surface, especially one that the rings will polish straight off ,but if you check size frequently you wont
