The LR dealer did not order the right ones(too small), so no playing with the RR today

Has anyone got a part number for the plug or knows the exact size.
My rough measurements told me the hole was about 39mm .....give or take a bit

The guy from LR phoned me back today and said he had found the correct plugs and they were 33mm. Which, I think, is too small again.

Any ideas?

No such animal as freeze plugs. Ask for core plug 1.5" diameter.

I know there's no such thing as a freeze plug, but I thought I'd mention it cause some people call it that

Rimmer Bros do a full core plug set for about 20 quid. It has every plug you could think of including many you cant.

There are many different sizes. It has about 20 different plugs in the set.

602152 should be number for core plug i believe there still same size as earlier engines

If I google that part number it comes up as a 33mm plug

602152 is core plu 8 in all fitted to engine which fits on side of block

Yes, but if it's 33mm it won't fit. I have a 34 and 36mm here which are both too small

Most sites I saw didn't mention size.

This one does - CUP PLUG 33mm ALL V8 - 602152 - Land Rover Parts & Range Rover Parts

Correct James, he said hole was around 39mm. 1.5" is 38.46mm. Think he will find most core plugs on V8 are imperial sizes. Needs to take a look at Ebay item 200608298768 metric core plugs, imperial also available.

OK, so I just measured the plugs I have left over from the set I got from Rimmers. P/N 602152A measures in at 38.2mm. There are 8 of these in the pack. There is also a P/N 602146 which measures 46mm. There is only one of these in the set.

Went to get the 2nd engine this morning and thought I'd get a core plug from that one and fitted it to the RR.

Not as a permanent replacement, but I just wanted to see what else would come up.

Engine started overheating after about 10 - 15 minutes running idle.

Felt bottom hose of thermostat assy - Ice cold
New thermostat assy ordered. Going to pick up new core plugs tomorrow and hopefully that's it sorted.

p.s there is also a brand new timing timing cover with the 2nd engine. I understand they are not cheap.
