Right,,,, I have aquired a set of 11.00 R16 XZL Michelin tyres with centres to fit my 90.

They are 38" tall, and when i put them up alongside a standard wheel and tyre they look BIG!!

At them moment my 90s is fairly standard, how much of a lift do people think is needed to fit them under my 90? Shes only brought out on the weekend so doesnt have to be very practical.

Alternatively i could try and sell them, how much do you they would be worth? there are 5 all brand new tyres? hmmmm, decisions

probably 3-4". But I dont think you would have the clearance on the bodywork of a Defender in standard form. You would need to be chopping the wings about to make them fit. Do they actually measure 38"?

summit tells me that the prop, radius arms/bushes, panhard rod, brake flexi hoses etc will all need modding anorl. It aint just a case of whacking a set of longer springs on the vehicle.

The increased gearing effect of those tyres will be huge. It won't be long before you will be replacing your clutch and possibly gearbox and prop UJ's if you fit them.

But, it would look pretty cool

... or damned st00pid .. ;)

To fit tyres that large 'properly' you'd need to do away with a lot more bodywork than normal, I guess, but it'd be hard to say exactly what .. so much of this kind of thing is suck it and see. The suspension would need some fettling and it's likely, as has been said already, that the gear train will take a hammering. Largest I'd go is 35" as they're just about feasible relatively easily.

I'd guess, bearing that in mind, that the tyres are only worth the effort someone wants to put in .. so feckall to 'normal' Landy drivers .. ;)

Ratty is right, it's likely that you will have to do a lot more than just fit taller springs.

I think there is someone on here that runs the same tyres, can't remember who though.

my tyres stand not far from 37 inch tall on my 90, i have a 2" HD Terrafirma, what they use on expedition vehicles

but what you will find is you need to crank the trailing arms and radius arms

This is what they look like next to my friends VERY original 90.

I was wondering if i could just get away with lifting the body. Obviously it wouldnt be the best answer for off roading but i would gain lots of ground clearance and would ride better on road unless i go and buy an all singing and dancing lift kit. I think they would be ideal on 101FC

I think by the time youve fitted those things and modded everything to make it ride ok you may aswell buy a pair of mog axles and fit them.

Then you can have all the ground clearance you want :D

That's my pic and my son ... ;)

Taken at Manby, 2007 or 2008 I think .. can't remember the exact date .. ;)

You can fit 38" tyres without modifying bodywork. It's tight, but do-able.

You will need at the very least a 2" lift though.

I've fitted 35" tyres to my 110, and the only modification I've had to do is extended arches, as the tyres are 12.5 inches wide :D
