Just got myself a Donaldson air filter assembly complete with 2 filters.

After recieveing it I started looking into spare filters for it and at first they seemed a little difficult to source. Well that was half an hour ago.

The original p/n's are: P783498 for the primary
P77530 for the Saftey

These are Donaldson codes for the MOD to use in their for WOLF LR's. Donaldson make lots of filters and they have several alternative p/n's for the same filters, which open up a lot of windows.

Primary: P82-7653, P78-1591, P54-4098, P82-2769, P82-7653 & P77-2579...

Saftey: P82-9332, P77-5300 & P82-9332...

...to name a few.

These filters are commonly used in Tractors and trucks, so are readily available.

The word from Donaldson is - the saftey is not really required for highway driving, if you do use it they recommend changing it every 3 primary filter changes.

Here is a comprehensive list - however, there are more - of part no's for the primary and saftey filter:

ah i see obviously extra filtration handy for dusty conditions ,are they more handy to fit with 300 tdi sitting back in a conversion instead of std ,never fitted 300 at rear of engine bay ?

I wouldn't say it would be any easier, but no more difficult. I have in the garage a RRclassic/Defender round filter housing which sat upright, so the drian is on the bottom, no good for horizontal mounting. Would rather keep it as is because I will be able to use it.

Now the Donaldson has the drain on the access panel, which can be put on at any angle, so air in the side, air out the front and the drain can sit facing down.

I guess it will be no easier, but for the money and the two filters and having spoken to people at Donaldson about them (superior filtration) I figured why the hell not.

I have my 300tdi in the 2.5/200tdi position because I ran it with an LT77 for a while, then got a R380 shortshaft so just left it where it is.

It will make finding a good air route a bit more difficult but I'll manage!

Photos to follow - one day!

I'll let you know how it goes, might be a pain and end up back on ebay!

James - there is one on ebay now if your interested.

Even as an upgrade it can't go wrong!

CFM rating is higher than normal filter so I'd say it would also offer a performance boost.

I have been on the phone to David at inline filters.co.uk this morning and he has been able to source and supply the mounting band / bracket for the Donaldson wolf air filter / cleaner box. Only one is required to hold the cleaner box sufficiently (they're about 5cm thick).

The Donaldson part number is:
P777731

And you can now buy it direct from here:
FDO-P777731 MOUNTING BAND-Plastic(ID-178mm) - £ 23.10 : In-Line Filters, The Filter Specialists

What a superbly helpful and resourceful company!

Ouch that's a lot for a plastic clamp. I think I will stick to my zip ties holding it to the injector pipes !
I got mine from a guy in Rochdale via the bay for £30 including postage and then found out the replacement filter problems and prices. I struck lucky and got three unit on the bay for 99p each so that's a few years motoring.
Do you know any squadies ?

Another option I found later was the Keith Gott 'Special Offers' with a genuine 300tdi can for £47. You then have a standard fitment and cheap filters that you can get anywhere.

Cable tied to your injector pipes!? That's going to cost you in the not too distant future, especially if it's pulling on the pipes, even just a little. Replacement filter elements are common as muck for these air filters, they just have different part numbers here there and everywhere. Coopers, Fram, Mann Hummel etc. all make them at a cost of anything between £8 and £15 each. I don't know any squadies but I think I know where you're going :D
