Right where do I start!! I am doing a 300 conversion on my 90 and rebuilt the engine and found the turbo had ALOT of play on the shaft.
So sourced one on flebay that should of arrived here 2day!!
All sounds good but the bast**d hasn't accepted the money through paypal!!!
So unless he is totally stupid this turbo ain't gonna turn up today, so my question is:

1: can you replace bearings for shaft?
2: has anyone got a 300 turbo for sale that is local ish?

Thanks in advance
Ryan.

Balancing a turbo is not easy, buy a new one and be done. Also pay someone to fit it otherwise you have no warranty.

2nd hand turbos is a false economy.

I would disagree with that as my 2nd hand 200tdi engine which had obviously been standing for ages still has a good turbo and boosts like a good un.
When i cracked the turbo housing on my td5 disco i bought a second hand one from e bay unseized the wastegate actuator (common td5 problem) fitted it and did another 20k before selling the car.

I bought a recon ex military one from Craddocks.

When it arrived it was a brand new one so well pleased and I know it'll be no trouble:)

Its a chance you take with second hand anythings, As long as theres no damage to the fins, no movement on the splines it should last a long time.

Not so, you only need to rebalance them if you replace the turbine wheel/shaft and compessor. If these are undamaged all your doing is replaceing the bearing parts and seals. So you can rebuild them easily enough. They are so simple it's not true.

That's what I thought?? But never done it so can't say!!
I have no or very little boost from turbo the fins are fine but does have alot of play on shaft!
