First of all PLEEEEEEEEEASE go easy on me here, and if you dont, dont worry i can take the banter!.

Secondly i have done the searches on this forum and through google before i have posted this but am still a little unsure on if my disco is normal or not! (only had it 3 days and never had a 4x4 before)

My disco heats up okay after a few minutes and runs fine (touchwood), the temp gauge will go to halfway when run for 5mins or an hour, if i then leave it running on idle the temp gauge will go down to the cold position (unsure if heaters blow cold/ warm, can check tomorow).

Is this normal as the engine isnt under load or does it sound like something else?

Many thanks in advance and sorry for the thick question!
(I do know someone has posted something similar below but cant work out whos taking the pi55 and who's being serious!)

From my experience it is normal-my 300 tdi had its viscous fan taken off a year a go (in boot)even ticking over for hours it will not get half way up the guage

If im laning and using no revs in very cold weather, my temp guage also goes down, well it did in my old Disco, not tried it in the newer one yet..:welcome2:

Its normal as its not under load...can't understand you didnt find it on the search as i answered this 2 hours ago.

Cheers, just seemed strange that it drops low when on idle, also the vehicle is totally standard and covered 66,000 miles if it makes any difference!

saw that one storm but couldnt tell if you were taking the pi55 ! i referred to you in my original post when i wrote it! haha, thanks though!

Thank you all, put my mind at rest now. Just mentioned it was standard as viscous fan had been mentioned before, THANKS ALL

Viscous fan is standard..a lot of peeps take the fan off because the engine runs so cold anyway..improves the internal heater.

thats what i meant mate, i meant mine was standard with the viscous fan still attached and not in the boot. I havent removed mine with the 32mm nut which has the left hand thread ;)
