Morning.

Any idea what stops the diesel running back when the engine is stopped on the 300TDi?

Mine takes a whole lot of cranking to get it to start after its been standing a few hours. Same symptom as if you have changed the fuel filter, and are priming the system up.

Im going to service it tomorrow incase its something silly, but has anyone come across this before? Once it fires, if you turn it off instantly, it will start again straight away, so im pretty sure its a fuel issue.

Air is getting in some where-injector leak off pipes are a good candidate if perished

Yes, I changed the leak off pipes a couple of days ago and was surprised at what a difference it made. Mine was also getting a bit lazy to start.

When I had a Tdi, and suffered the same thing if I parked nose uphill, my independent landy expert suggested changing the fule lift pump and that cured the problem. Relatively cheap and easy fi.
As other posters have said, any air leak will also cause problems.

When I had a 300Tdi with the same problem I bought an updated fuel pipe from filter which has a loop in it.
Get it from a LR dealer. Don't have number as I gave all my invoices etc to the new owner when it was sold 8 months ago. According to my local LR spares man this loop was designed to stop fuel running back.

2 things ,leak offs letting air in and lift pump (one way valves not fully sealing or poor diaphragm)

Thanks for the replys lads.

Changed the fuel filter this morning and noticed the tank-return from the last injector was off lol

That and my lift pump appears dieselly damp, i guess thats knackered too haha!

Will get the lot changed this week.

Am getting there with this truck....
