Hi guys, hope you can help.

I use my 300tdi Commercial Vehicle all the time for off road use member of the AWDC and seem to be getting through alternators like nobody's business?? No matter how much i wash them and WD40 them the bearings go completely and last week my fan belt snapped because the alternator was siezed solid!! Also this current alternator has made the battery light stay on permanently even though my new battery is being charged and my rev counter works??

Anyone know why this is and howto protect it from off road abuse?

many Thanks

Josh

have had the same problem on a few things. alternators really dont like getting wet and muddy. trouble with wd-40 is it doesnt really lubricate it just gets some of the water out but it will dry leaving no lube at all. some sort if spray grease will be better as it sets when the propellant has evaporated.

thanks will try that instead. Its not as if i can even cover it with a protective layer as they need to ventilate dont they.

yeah they need to keep cool somehow or another. lots of newer stuff with high output one will have a cold air duct going to them.
