Picked up a 300 tdi disco last night as a non starter ,i got it running quite quickly by putting a live to the exciter wire on the starter so i kind of half now what the problem is

Il check with a multimeter later bit i assume no power is getting to the exciter wire so if this is the case whats likley to be the cause ?

Try 'hot wiring' the ignition switch o_O

There's wiring plugs under steering column shroud somewhere, can prove the loom from there??
As the Ign switch can cause issues and as I found out on one of my '200tdi' Discos :( someone / previous owner had run a new wore from the ign switch to the starter so me being me (& some OCD :p ) I re-traced the loom & found the issue as corroded contacts in the 'starter-relay' that was 'hidden' in the passenger side 'A' pillar next to the rust

Plenty rust in this one ! il check all the contacts and nothing obvious came up my plan was to run another wire

Also....

Watch out for broken wires, can let the electrical 'smoke' escape :oops:o_O:p:D
