Picked up a 300 tdi disco last night as a non starter ,i got it running quite quickly by putting a live to the exciter wire on the starter so i kind of half now what the problem is

Il check with a multimeter later bit i assume no power is getting to the exciter wire so if this is the case whats likley to be the cause ?

Try 'hot wiring' the ignition switch

There's wiring plugs under steering column shroud somewhere, can prove the loom from there??
As the Ign switch can cause issues and as I found out on one of my '200tdi' Discos someone / previous owner had run a new wore from the ign switch to the starter so me being me (& some OCD ) I re-traced the loom & found the issue as corroded contacts in the 'starter-relay' that was 'hidden' in the passenger side 'A' pillar next to the rust

Plenty rust in this one ! il check all the contacts and nothing obvious came up my plan was to run another wire

Also....

Watch out for broken wires, can let the electrical 'smoke' escape

Id rather the smoke stays in the wires !!!
