Hi,

Just bought a 1994 Disco 300 TDI. I have never driven one before so have nothing to compare to but the accelerator pedal needs a lot of force to push down. I disconnected it from the injector? assembly and the cable itself was not stiff or sticking. The problem seems to be a strong spring on the injector assembly to close the throttle when you step off the pedal. Are they all like this or do I need to keep looking

Any help or suggestions welcome

Richard

make sure its the correct spring. someone may have bodged it.
otherwise it sounds like summat else inside the IP.

If the spring on the injector pump (injectors are the spark plug like units that inject the fuel into the engine) is the wrong one that could make it hard, although I wouldn't think it would be strong enough to make pushing the accelerator hard.

See if the throttle on the IP moves freely by hand, I can move mine with a fair bit of pressure but not finger hurting.

Hi,
I too recently brought a 94 disco tdi 300 and had the same feeling. I went down the route of finding more power by tweaking the fuel pump and fitting a EGR plate. Now the pedal feels lighter as you do not have too push as hard to get the ponies, Wah lah. Find out about EGR Plates and fuel pump teaks on this site and I am sure you will be much happier. I still get near 30MPG if cruising about town and country, thats about 450 miles per tank. The big gain in power and feel is when towing my trailer that carries access platforms and weighs 3 ton( I could only just pull away before). One snag is that, I found with more power is my clutch then slipped and I blew of my turbo pipe as the jubilee clip was loose.

yes - I have had many cars, although the last few have all had electronic engine management systems so the accelerator pedal does not have a cable as such. The spring looks to be the right one and I agree with discomania about the force needed to move the injector pump lever - mine is similar. I'll have another look at it this weekend and maybe swap the cable anyway to eliminate it
