Hi all

Does anyone know about the wiring between the 2 sensors under the thermostat housing and the 2 electric fans behind the grill please.

I'm told that the sensors put the fans in at certain temperatures which means the viscous fan can be removed for normal running conditions.

Any help gratefully received

Is this what your thinking of? copied from RAVE in the AC section.
"The thermostatically controlled timer will continue to operate the cooling fans after the air conditioning or ignition is switched off.
When the system temperature is excessive, the fans will operate for 10 minutes to reduce condenser and underbonnet temperature".

Yeah that sounds about rite, cheers

I had a play about today and all I could get to happen was the passenger side fan cut in when I bridged the wires from the rear sensor and the ac pump clutch cut in when I earthed one of the wires from the front sensor, this made me wonder if it was designed to turn the ac pump off when things got a bit warm

I thought that one sensor would do one fan at one temperature and the other do the other at another...if ya get me, but maybe not

Thanks again

I've been looking into the electric fan thing again. On my disco the front sensor on the thermostat housing cuts the ac clutch out at a certain temperature and the rear sensor cuts the fan in at a certain temp'.

The thing is tho, that I can still only get the left fan to cut in, does anyone know when the other fan is ment to come on or are they fastened together and ones just packed up???

Thanks

Sensor operation is normal, and the fans run simultaneously or should, all the info is in RAVE in the AC section.

Thanks for that, il look at that fan then. You don't happen to know where the wires run for them do you?

Cheers

Hi, nope I've never had to find out, but I believe the fans drive shaft can seize which is not unreasonable considering the location of them.
So your task is to get access, then remove and clean, lubricant and refit. :)

Hi

Please leave your viscous fan fitted and operating as standard. The "extra" use of the AC fans are for emergency only when excess temperatures have been reached in your cooling system.
Yes both electrical fans should always operate at the same time.

Many people who originally removed their Viscous fans and ran without them or replaced with electrical fans have now refitted the viscous fan after discovering that the increased risks of overheating are not worth it.

Some discovered that their car could get very hot while just waiting at traffic lights.

Land Rover spent a lot of money and time developing their cars and like all manufacturers if they could reduce their manufacturing cost by leaving something off they would have done so !!!

Discool- yeah They would of been better behind the radiator really if that was possible. I have had that problem with fans on other cars, we'll see wot happens.

Jonathanp- the viscous fan has been off for ages and the vehicle has sat in traffic and been used normally and towed trailers including another disco and even tho the boost and fuel are turned up I've never seen the gauge anywhere apart from where it always used to be, which to be honest I count my lucky for! I've now got myself an egt gauge because I'm trying to get it set up well and I am thinking of putting the fan back on (it lives in the boot) because I'm expecting higher temperatures, better safe than sorry and all that

Thanks
