Are there any tips on buying 2nd hand gearbox's or is it just a lottery? I know you can check the output shaft for wear on the splines. I am going to be taking the PTO plate off my existing box this weekend to check if its the output shaft wear on the spline causing the delay and "soft" clunk when i pull away. I have already changed the rear half shafts and "A" frame ball joint which got rid of the real heavy knock. Trouble is without seeing the gearbox in the vehicle before its stripped, i might buy a duffer?

Any advice

buy a recon only way to be certain of getting a good un.
