does anyone know if 235/65/17 tyres will fit on my freelander without fouling the suspension thanks in advance

i dont know as yet but tryin some on my 03 freelander in a few days (1st feb) as my 225 55 17 have failed mot cracked side walls. 235 65 17 are alot cheaper than 225 55 17.

I sincerely doubt that these tyres will fit without hitting the bottom spring cup on the front struts and the inner rear wing plastic liner.
I'm running 235/55 17s which have barely 8mm between the tyre tread edge and the front strut spring cup. You have to allow room for the tyre to flex during hard cornering.
235/65 17s are a good 1" bigger in radius than mine so will close the gap between tyre and strut in my opinion.
You will also have the speedo problem that when your speedo says 70mph you will really be doing just over 75mph - beware!
I would be worried about the clearance, even if they might seem to fit with vehicle stationary.

I agree with Singvogel, I don't think they will fit, thats 29" dia with a wider than standard tread width, I think they will foul your inner wings when on full lock & will be very close or possibly touching the spring cup on the strut, putting 30mm spacers on might help but then they would probably foul on your mudflaps (if you have them fitted).

Just been & had a measure of my clearances, I've got 225/75/16's fitted so at 29.28" about the same dia as the ones you want to fit but 10mm narrower tread, I have 30mm wheel spacers fitted & guess what, as near as damn it I have 30mm clearance between the tread corner & the spring cup when measured horizontaly so without the spacers they would be touching. Based on that the 235/65/17's would be touching the spring cup unless you fit spacers.

I agree with matacaibo's calculations, and conclusion.
A 235 wide tyre on a 17" rim will fit - but only a 55 profile - any bigger and you will touch the spring cups.
I have no spacers and I've done some hard cornering in the Alps in the Summer without any probs. I do fit 10mm spacers on the front and 7mm spacers on the rear, when I fit my 9mm chains in the Winter as per Austrian rules. The spacers live in the bag with the chains.
I would not risk any higher profile without spacers and the longer studs that would be needed.
Let's see how 3lander4x4 gets on next week.

No they dont fit tried yesterday , had to get 4 new 225 55 17s instead wallet is now much lighter

For future ref, did they hit the spring cup or the wheel arch behind the front wheels ?

The only bit they hit was the spring cups. You would need at least 30-40mm spacers
