Ello all,
Just driving along happily when all of suden huge tapping/ clapping noise from the engine, pulled over switched the old girl off,

Got it towed up the workshop 1 min away were I was heading to, took the rocker cover off and seen it had snapped a valve spring, luckily the collets hadn't dropped down into the sump.

I only did the tappet adjustment the other day but that wasn't the cause of it.
Has bent the pushrod but the valve is in good condition luckily from what can see/ feel from above so will leave the head on and hope it's not damaged the piston face or valve face

Anybody ever seen a valve spring snap in half before?? Never heard of one going, I shall be contacting the company that I bought the head off and see what they say!!

Ps, any tips on getting a valve spring off my old cylinder head without a spring compressor, g clamps and big plate with a hole in the middle??

never seen a valve spring before , on my OHC focus diesel I had the cam snap in 5 places and put a valve through the piston completely and left it resting on the crank and no the timing belt hadent broken on it lol

May be worth leaving the broken valve as-is until you have contacted the company so they don't have any cause to claim it was caused by you. I think I would mention that I was concerned that all the springs could be suspect as it is a new head (duff batch?), what would happen if another one went in a years time as it would be out of warranty?

Can't leave it bud is my daily driver, gota get on and fix it tomorow. Well the valve is ok from what I can see and feel so not going to take the head off, just put a new spring on from me old head. I've contacted them but no reply yet, going to ask if they used new springs or put the old ones back on..
Still very strange a spring snapping lol
