I have a knocking sound which speeds up with acceleration in high box. There is a whine when decelerating. But when low box is selected the knocking completely disappears. Does any one have a rough idea of what it could be? Or anyone who has had it happen in the past? The oils were ok when it was serviced. It has done 186000. Cheers guys.

depends on whether the noise goes because of reduced vehicle speed ,or is physicaly connected to high gear ,you could remove sump plate and have a look, input and intermediate gear shouldnt have any freeplay neither should diff ,hi snd low gears should have a little ,check all teeth sometimes bits get wedged in between 2 teeth

The noise quietness slightly when speed is reduced. If foot is taken off the accelerator pedal the noise disappears. No knocking in neutral. Just accelerating in gear in high box!

prop joints ,output bearings okay ,if so have a look ,you can resael sump on t/box with silicone sealant
