I think my 200tdi needs a new rad, I've noticed the water level has dropped a bit and the bottom of the rad is wet.

I'm a bit confused, paddocks do a btp1823s that says fits all and is £95, but then there are two different other ones listed for pre and post JA Defenders that are an absolute fortune (£350 to £500!)

Will the cheap one fit?

Ah ok, mines a JA911 chassis code which according to paddocks is the earlier type.

Are the oil cooler fittings interchangeable?

Find out how much to get your rad re-cored, they'll put new fittings on it too ...

When my Softdash needed a new rad I checked with LR, who of course wanted silly money and couldn't say when I would get one.

I went to a local rad firm, who quoted less for a clone, but a HUGE amount for re-coring.

I went on eBay, got one (new, clone) for less that £100. When it arrived (48 hrs) it looked immaculate and dropped straight in - absolutely perfect.

Note - paying more does not necessarily mean better quality.

Just rang paddocks.

The expensive rads include the intercooler apparently, but the rad on its own should fit ok.

So I've gone and ordered their £94 rad. Ordered the Antifreeze from them too £120 all in express delivery. I can live with that.

Can't be arsed with re-coring tbh I just want to switch it in a day.

So that's my job for Wednesday.

Then it's transfer box sump gasket and rear diff pinion seal to do and for now I've cured all the leaks...

Can't really see the point in re-coring, unless you've got a bloody expensive or rare rad!
I went the cheap route too. Got mine from Budget Radiators ( they could've come up with a better name! ) on eBay, sold as Champion Radiator. £89 incl. delivery with a 2 year warranty. Fitted perfectly and works a charm. Mustn't grumble.

Well the paddocks one bolted straight in. Had to swap the oil cooler unions over as the new rad comes with the later style installed as James said, other than that swapped in an hour, easy peasy.

In fact the longest part was looking for the Jubilee Clip I lost!

The old rad being brass was tonnes heavier, I've kept it and I might possibly get it re-cored in the future.
