Ok, does one have to take the engine out to remove that ladder frame on the bottom of the engine?

I have cross-posted this on the Land Rover Addict forum and the LR4x4 forum and get different answers on each

Ok, so far I have one yes and two nos. Is there a difference between a Disco 200tdi and a Defender when it comes to this?

One reply on another forum says there are two bolts going horizontally forward into the frame and that is why the frame can't be removed.

ok, but we are a workshop so we cant charge for a job where we take half the sump/etc off. We have to know whether the job will work before we start.

It was a while ago now,but I put a single piston in a 200TDI classic RR.(dont do much with TDI's anymore) I did not take out the engine or move the box back thats all I remember.It has done about 30,000m since,(put a new transfer box in it just before Christmas) I dont always follow the w/shop manual to the letter,use it more as a guide.
As for knowing what to charge for,on a vehicle like this I make it clear to the customer that to a certain extent you dont know what you will find till you get it apart.Give a max/min cost guide and promise to keep the labour down to a minimum.This has worked well for me over the years,building up trust with customers brings me more work than any ads in the paper.

We hate Discos as well, yellow or otherwise They get driven harder than the same Defenders. Maybe this is why we have four stuffed Discos in the workshop at the moment, the Camel 200tdi, two V8 efi's and a TD5, all with heads off. This follows the normal holiday season here in Dec/Jan when it gets a bit hot outside.
