Hi All,

Got an issue recently, When i try to start the car it simply clicks and wont start, a couple of attempts and it does start but i was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

It seems this problem worsens when the weathers hot or possibly when the cars sat for a while with the engine running.

The Battery is the original, so probably due to change but ive read about starter motor, or ignition switch problems elsewhere.

Any help or advice would be great.

sounds a bit like a battery issue.

have you tried turning the lights on when you try to start, if they go really dim then it could be the battery.

does it jump start ok ?

Ill try the Lights on..... Ive not had to resort to jump starting yet though.....
 
definitely the starter motor easy to do the worst part of it is getting it off you have to take the battery tray off as there is a bolt that goes through
 
Hi Guys,

I ordered the kit yesterday and its turned up today :) Charged the battery just in case and the first start clicked so at least i know its not the battery.

So Is there any local Landy Zoners around Leicester who fancy giving me a hand in return for a couple of beer tokens? It would be good to have a little moral support and have a chat at the same time lol

Late Update:

Finally got around to having the Repair Kit for Nippon Denso Starter Motor fitted last friday, Took it to a good chap who used to serivice one of my other cars...

Luckily i printed out the info including the below info which saved the day...

I've just figured out how the Starter motor comes off of my 2006 Manual TD4.
It took me a hour and half to realise that the 2 fixings that hold the starter motor are different. You can quite easily see the bottom nut and bolt which is to the front, the top fixing is just a long bolt, the hole that this goes into, on the starter, is threaded.
It's easier to see if you remove the fuel pressure regulator, its just a hollow chamber, easy to remove and it gives you the chance to clean it up.(Haynes manual Diagramme 1.1 page 4B.3).
The bolt head can be seen under this at the right hand end, It looks like it bolts through the bell housing, surrounding the fly wheel. I used a socket and ratchet with the ratchet hanging down to get enough room to turn the bolt.


There was no need to remove anything other than disconnecting the battery either. All back together but one thing happened which was the radio still worked but the cd showed an CD error 01.

On the way back from the garage i popped it back to my Dealers and they checked and basically the CD gets a little confussed when the battery is disconnected but sorts itself after 3-4 engine starts.

So a shout out for the service team at Sturgess Land Rover in Leicester for not only having a quick look friday afternoon but also for not charging me.

Hope some of this helps as there is little info on the CD error1 when you search it.

Glad it was of use! I had a feeling that doing a write up with pics of the solenoid refurb would help a few peeps out.
 
Had a similar problem with my Freelander 2 TD4 2012. Lots of clicking and not starting.
Followed this thread and purchased a starter motor solenoid, took it to the local garage and bingo, problem solved.
£15 for the kit, £45 for an hours labour to install (beyond my capabilities).
Thanks for all the help in this thread, its spot on.
Other problems that we considered was key fob being flat - apparently they can go flat and stop ignition from working too.
