Took my time today changing the oil & filter on my TD4. For some silly reason thought I'd get rid of the last bit of oil in the can, and its taken the level about 3mm over the max mark on the dip stick.

Is this safe to leave? If not wondering if I can syphon to save removing the under tray again.

Hi , should be no worries ,as the same was done to mine by , Evans Halshaw Citroen Hartlepool by the way , the correct way to check the oil level on a td4 is to remove the dipstick , and clean it then re insert it to get a proper reading hope this helps

Unfortunately some people just take the dipstick out and take the first reading not realising that the pressure built up in the dip tube results in a low reading, they then add oil and end up over filling. Obvious to those who have some mechanical understanding but not to those who don't.

i wouldn't loose sleep over it

too high an oil level becomes problematic if the crankshaft starts to whip it up
causing aeration of the oil .. ..

if your worried 'n having nightmares .. :

" Pela Oil & Fluid Extractors " are useful devices ..
( 'machine mart' sell them )
some garages are known to use them for oil changes ..
they get most .. but not all the oil .. out of the sump

was that before you started it up first time after oil change as it will go down after the filtter has been charged up with oil
