I am new to Land Rover and this is my first post.
My wife has a 2004 Freelander Td4. Reading through the forum I then decided to change the filter fuel myself following instructions from the forum.

After changing the Fuel Filter I noticed a loose wire (Not the earth one), it's like a plug to something. I saw a picture of the housing where the filter is and the pump. There is a part that I see on someone's Freelander and on mine the part is missing. The loose plug goes into that part.

Can anyone tell me what part it is and where does it go. Is it a problem if I don't have it? The car runs okay without it.

Please check picture to see, the picture I took from the forum with the part and my two picture without the part.

Any help appreciated.

hiya

i recently done mine to on my 2002 td4 and also found a spare wire,

if u search for mine ive out pics on there as well so u can compare them

i think it went onto a pre heater ????????

but dont think its anything to worry about if its been running of, tucked it out of the way and covered it with a bag and water proofed it

gary

Do you mean the lead in picture 3?

if so, I think this is the earth that connects to the fuel filter itself. On the plastic housing that the fuel filter slides into, at one of the ends should be a spade connector that this wire plugs onto.

Mine rusted and fell off in my hands when changing the filter. I just tucked it away and no adverse effects...

I suspect its some kind of ground for static leccy that could be caused by high pressure fuel ?????

Thanks, its a relief. But I would like to know the part and what it does. But will leave it as is till I have found some more info about it.

No, I don't mean the earth wire. I've read a lot about that one. My problem is the wire which connect to a part I don't know what it is or it does.

Hi all,
I was replacing the diesel fuel filter in my girlfriends 2004, Td4. The black wire in the middle of photo no. one (hanging vertically), was not connected and all corroded on the end of it. Is this the ground wire or.....
