Don't know the threshold temp for aircon fans to come in on the petrol but ECM will also cut power to and disengage aircon compressor at high engine temps to reduce engine load. Eg standing in traffic in hot conditions.

The time you most need aircon then :D

Hi, is it possible to use Datateks MOD on the 4.6 petrol? I have a spare set of fans in the shed and have been thinking about the fan MOD. I will be towing our first caravan in 3 weeks time and just a tad concerned about the cooling although mine has never played up.

Yes, the mod is a good back up on the V8 and the temperature at which the fans operate can be set so they come on at the slightest over temperature. PM me with an email address if you want details.:)

The ECU brings the fans on when it's too late as an overheat has already ocurred and the situation is unrecoverable without a power reduction or stopping the car:)

Hi Datatek,
Have sent PM.

I don't know what the activation temp for the aircon fans to come on and the aircon compressor to be shut down is for the petrols, they run at a higher temp than the diesels. But the diesels 105 degrees, as long as the cooling system is sound with no leaks and has the correct coolant mix, is not a serious overheat situation.

From what I've seen on the petrol, the fans don't activate until it has overheated.

Don't know, but it is controlled by the ECM so there must be a set point above the normal 96 degrees. Without looking not sure what that would be. As i said if the system is sound with no pressure loss or coolant leaks 105 degrees should not be a problem if it's the same set point as the diesel. If the system is losing pressure or coolant is low through leaks switching the aircon fans on and disabling the aircon compressor is a useful as tits on a Mars bar.
