Hi,

Just got my Freelander (52 plate GS AUTO) back from the garage with news that they think my ECU is faulty. The car loses power, almost like it hasn't got enough fuel. It's been doing this for a while now. They've had it on the computer and this is the decision they have come to.

Can someone on the forum educate me on the best way to replace this ECU without having to re-mortgage my house? Are the ECU's for this model coded to the car or should I just be able to pick one up from a breaker? If anyone has any suggestions or knows the best place to buy one I will be very grateful.

Check the 2 barrel connectors above the auto int come apart. Twist to lock. Check the connector wiring int snagged or broken. Long shot but it's free.

So I have taken the numbers down from my ECU and found a second hand one. Should I be able to swap them over straight? Does anyone know what challenges I will face once I do this? i.e. Will my remote fobs still work?

The auto ecu is different to all the other ecu's in your Freelander 1, and the fobs int anything to do with the auto ecu. Never changed one myself but disconnect battery and change the auto ecu and see. It's betterer if the one your fitting is known to be working. Cross fingers and hope it works.
