I am unable to see how the prices for td5 discos vary so much,a local dealer near here asking £8995 for 2002 model (preface lift) with 8800 on the clock although in good nick and was auto but no leather.
I bought my 2002 td5 in Nov 2008 with 5900 for £6695 although with a few small nics here and there.Bought from a dealer, did I get a bargain or what??

It's very easy to understand the divergence of prices, it's just a bit more difficult to accept.

Sellers and particularly professional sellers want to get the best possible price for their goods, so they ask eg £8995. When someone shows interest and have a car to trade in this dealer has enough 'fat' to offer an "irrestable" trade-in price for the car, making the overall deal look good.

I have a 2002 TD5 auto ES with 108,000mls on the clock - does that mean it is worth, let's say £8500?? No of course it doesn't.

Anything is only worth want someone is prepared to pay for it.

Incidently I bought my car last year for £2000 - was it worth it? OH YES!!!!!!!!!!

It really depends on how long a vehicle is sitting on a dealers forecourt and of he needs to move it on to change his stock, sometimes they will make a loss or break even to get rid.
