Do those plastic engine cover things reduce the noise any? Think my next job will be sound proofing. I know you can do lots with matting and kits (and I will be). I just wondered if a cover was worth the cost.

Yes, probaby made more difference than any other single thing I've done to try and reduce noise in me tratter
 
Do you mean the rubber cover that goes over the rocker cover and manifold? No it doesn't make any difference.

I know you can get 'noisekiller' blankets for over the engine but I've no idea on their effectiveness
 
Hi Sp00ks - Yup. It made an enormous difference on my old 200TDi - I would urge everyone to invest in one if they do motorway miles.
 
It's a pretty heavy lump of rubber/plastic stuff. I imagine it must make some difference. Even if it doesn't, it still makes the engine bay look a bit better IMO.
 
Well I got one, I think it's made a difference, but of course she is still a noisy beast! Engine bay certainly looks better and a bit more of this century.
