I know, loads of freds on this allready, blablablablabla........
So, i have the choice of either sticking in a 200tdi (straight swap) OR, a 300tdi. But i don't know the work exactly in putting a 300 in. Can someone go really in to detail? I have heard of modifying the chassis, Then again, i have ALSO heard of building a bracket around the oil filter to make it fit? I don't know, if someone could go very very in to detail about the job, would be fantanstic. The reason a 300tdi would be better, is because 200tdi's are VERY sparse over here. The frenchies want to sell me a crashed up, beaten up heap of crap for 1200 euros. OR a defender, with a broken g/b, transfer, and engine, a blocked front diff, and a body that had been cut up to make it in to a pickup, for 3500 euros. Dreamers, they are over here. But you can find 300tdi's for very cheap.
Thanks

Its the same over here good 200s are hard to come by and 300s seem more plentyful and as i have a good 300 in my disco i know what engine im using !

Been looking into it and your options for the engine mounts are cut and weld the R/H mount further back or make up a mount that uses the holes further back on the block but reaches forward to the existing chassis mount

Cutting the chassis seems easier unless you realy dont want to

Okay. I would have thought 200tdi's were much easier to find over there? anyway, still don't know if i want to modify the chassis.. I might wait it out until a 200 comes my way. I DO have a candidate, a tidy lookin disco 200tdi, complete, with a few minor problems for 990 euros.

No I'm using it atm sorry....I never realised when I got mine that there more sort after....so strange as there slow as **** haha

Did you consider rebuilding your 200 tdi engine or buying a reconditioned one from the UK and have it shipped out to you?

Sorry, finally getting back to you. Had to wash the old gal off. Trax, yes its a 2.5N/A. and thanks for the infos ;)
Ttwo, thats fine. I just want a more economical, powerful and smooth engine :)
And mikescuba, yes i want to rebuild it when i get it.. Even if it runs, i want to recondition it myself, curious about how it all goes together ;)

Ive fitted a 300tdi engine in my 1987 landrover 90 originally fitted with the 2.5td engine in it, i made a bracket to fit around the oil filter so i didnt have to modify the chassis and also used my lt77 gearbox. I had a good search around on the internet before i started and figured not modifiying the chassis was the best option just in case it didnt pass its french CT.

YES! thats what i wanted! can you post pics of the bracket if you have it? would be greatly apreciated! ;)

pics

Only works on defender mounts as the R/H series mount will stab the oil filter

Im going to try shortening my chassis mount and make something similar to this to bolt to the engine
