Strange request really. I am out in the Malaga region and have a very sickly Discovery 300Tdi, and has been continually problematic for the last 12 months. Timing belt tensioner bearing seized, engine rebuild, and since a couple of head gaskets, black smoke, blue smoke and on it goes. I have just been offered a very sound 200tdi engine with a ropey gearbox, is this a viable swap and what bits do I need to keep my gearbox mated to the new engine. I won't be doing the work!

Engine mounts are different and you'll have to fiddle like fook to get the gearbox to mate up to the 200tdi I'd try and get the gearbox as well to make it easier for you.

Just seen the bit about the ropey gearbox so that buggered that bit of advice up.

Appart from the engine mount issue the Tdi engine in a Discovery is a straight swap. Both Tdi engines and gearboxes are interchangeable in the Discovery.

apparently so mate yes. i tried putting a 200 into my 300 auto, the gearbox wouldnt mate up without a very very contsly back plate. so i ended up scrapping it lol.

ya 300 tdi gearbox ia a r380 the 200 tdi is a lt77 this is only the start of the problems
