Alright guys.

Im just about to order shocks and springs for a 2" lift on my military LR90. Firstly i want to double check that lifting 2" isnt going to cause me too many problems and that all im going to require are springs and shocks. I know this has been covered before but wouldnt mind some more confirmation of the fact!
Also, as my landy is military i am sure that it has different (i.e. stiffer) springs than a standard LR90. I have been in a couple of standard defender 90's and they defo feel softer/bouncier than mine. Now if this is the case, then is there also a chance that it has already had a lift of some sort. I dont wanna buy new shock/springs, fit them and find that its no different. Can anyone tell me how i can check (i.e. how high it should be as standard) whether it has already been lifted at all?

Thanks in advance for any/all help!

here is a pic from the side. Does it look lifted at all?

No it don't look lifted. Some ex mod LR's had an helper spring inserted inside the rear springs. to stiffen up the ride. If you do go for the lift get extended brake flexihoses as well. Easiest way to chec for a lift is to measure the height of the roof. If it's 2" higher then the specs say it should be then it's had a lift.

Thanks for that Red. I will certainly get the extended brake hoses. If i measure to the roof will it make a difference that i dont have standard wheels on it? not sure if my tyres are bigger than the originals.

Mine has the original 7.50 x 16 XCLs and they are 32" in diameter, yours does not seem to sit any higher than mine so I guess its standard, I know that if I stand on toes ( right foot ) me bum just slides onto the drivers seat nicely and Im 5ft 11ins.

Thanks for the input baniradley. Ive asked a few other people and they all say it dosnt look lifted so sod it ive done it now. I bought the job lot 2" lift kit with dislocation cones yesterday. Will be fitting it tomorrow. Ill let you know how i get on. Should be a laugh as im a bit of a spastic when it comes to mechanics!

I forgot to mention. Nice truck mate! Have you got any more pics? How do you get on with the canvas roof? Ive got one in the garage but was told they are a bit of a nighmare in the winter! So ive kept the non-MOD hardtop on for convenience.

Use a tire comparison site and find out what diameter 7.50x16's are and what yours are. and deduct or add the difference.

I have not been through a winter with the rag top yet but so far it is ok, no condesation dripping down your neck like you get on an ulined hard top and I think it holds what little heat the engine produces better, the only problem up to now is that when you get to about 50mph the canvas flaps and makes a cracking sound but hey I can live with that, roll on next summer ( if we get one ! ) then I can roll the sides up.

hrrrmm - **** now ive got a new problem.. Do i put my canvas back on?It does look much better than the hardtop. I think ill message you again in January and see if your still as happy!!

On another note. I managed to fit my lift kit over the weekend (the whole weekend!!) Never believe the guy in the shop when he says "Youll fit that lot in a few hours!" Lier!! Anyway you guys were right, it certainly wasnt lifted before. I need a step ladder to get in the fooker now!

Thanks for the input guys!

Yeah Ill let you know how I get on with the tilt this winter providing I don't freeze to death !!!! one thing about the lift, now it is higher and you have to launch yourself into the cab watch out for your head !! on one I had before I split my head open on the top of the door frame jumping in ! after the 2nd time I learned to be a bit more careful. ( Im a slow learner ) One point about the tilt is security, if you have to park in town you need to find somewhere that is busy and in full view of everybody ! and then you still worry about what some little villan might up to.

Only Joking - in case you hadnt guessed!

Here is the before
