Not sure if this is right or not as evidentally I've not had one before, but am sure that the td should be able to pull to above 60, wheras I have trouble getting anything above 50. Snot a major issue but it just doesn't feel right. Fuel economy seems ok at around 25.

Engine was replaced by a previous owner, but no documentation etc. so no idea about milage, though the speedo clock reads just over 190,000m. Fuel filter was changed yesterday but made no difference. No mayo or pressure from filler cap, and when warm with dipstick removed little puffs or air but it definately aint ****ing oil at me, so I think crankcase pressure is ok. Turbo whistles nicely, and I don't think any pipes are collapsing or anything so am not too sure it's a problem with that. Tranny brake seems to be OK too and not binding.

Any ideas?

I don't think thats right, my 2.5NA will do 80 on the flat. There is a fairly long hill on the motorway that I travel on fairly regularly and I can pull a steady 68/70 up that, there is almost no black smoke doing this and the foot is planted.

Could be your maximum fuel on the injection pump is to low - I would give it a service, change the filters, if you are sure timing and things are right have a go at increasing the fuel a little.

is that the speed indicated on your speedo ?

Forgot to mention it hasn't got an air filter at the moment, no idea why. But whilst I'm still looking for a job I've not got any money, but my nissan has got a K&N style cone jobby which I'll smack in there. Likewise oils etc need to wait till I've got some work, but the fuel filter was changed.

My 110 with td would do 70 easy. I've had 80 out of it with the wind behind me. Hills are a pain compared to a tdi but only 50 on the flat says there's summat wrong. You haven't got a stupid big roof rack on it have you that'll take 10mph off your top end.

Nope, the only thing I've got is a cb whip and some tyres in the back, but it was the same afore I got the tyres.

Not particularly, just the air moving about inside the crankcase and the air from the cooling fan.

i'd not worry about it - just get the air filter sorted, give it a service - make sure there's enough air in the tyres and then start working on turning it into a sports car by tweaking the fueling etc

also, get underneath it and check the number on the tranny box just incase they've put a different box on with a silly ratio

who needs to go faster than 50 anyway :)

Sorted, was just worried I might have a poorly turdo etc or something worse. - by the way does anyone know the correct standard length/whatever of the turbo actuator for "standard" boost? So I can see if mine has been turned down for some silly reason?

aggreed! I'm fine with it, just like to keep up with traffic sometimes!
