I'm just in the middle of a gasket change on my 2.5 N/A.
The gasket kit from allmakes (supplied by FamousFour) seem to be good quality, and also comes with a new rocker cover and breather gaskets, injector washers, and valve seals. It's an easy, if fairly heavy job, and quite possible to do on the street - I don't have a garage. You will need a torque wrench and a couple of non metric spanners. The oil feed pipe from the sump to the head is non metric (on my 1985 model anyway). It shouldn't be too tight, so you might get away with an adjustable spanner. I've done it before, the only difficult thing (when you're only 5'9") is lifting the head off and on at the limit of your reach.

im in a similar position, my 2.5NA stsrted to make a ticking noise so i checked the hot spots the were cracked so i replaced them, only to find the tick came back again. 
so after reading bits on here i had the head off to check the cam followers and 1 is damaged. but i think im going to drop the sump pull the pistons and change the rings as well while im in this deep. you are right the head id a heavy lift, just eat 3 shreaded wheat before hand it will be ok lol
