Firstly, I would check the OBD port is not corroded, this is a common fault. It could be you have a fault caused by spurious RF getting into the BECM. Happened to Dean68uk http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/diesel-no-fuel-injectors-help-please-154807.html

Where are you based? you may have a forum member close enough to at least have a look and maybe help. Could be someone with a specialised Land Rover diagnostic tool like a faultmate or hawkeye.

Good luck with it

hi thanks bill for a quick responce the guy that stuck his computer in said when he looked at the plug it looked like a couple of the pins are pushed in not sure yet iam going to take the panel of and have a closer look
will also say that someone said it could be the ecu connection behind the battery he then undid it gave it a wiggle didnt completley remove but did not disconect the battery which ive been told could of fried ecu ?
iam in leicester
thanks again ted

There are a couple of fuses and a relay to check....I think Relay No.12 but can't be sure...

The Wammer or Datatek will know which ones to check, also check the engine fuse box for a smell of burning as it is well known that they can develope dry joints and corrosion causing hot spots that affect a few systems....the fuel delivery system being one of them.

Do a search on here , the fuse and realy details have been posted numerous times...

thanks saint v8 we have checked fuses and relays BUT the fuse box behind battery well the lid smells really strong burning smell has been like that for a few years this problem did ocur once before about a year ago at a petrol station we left it for an hour then put a jump start to it after churning for a bit it started and never faulted again til now
many thaks ted

Glow timer relay takes power direct from battery. It is switched by engine ECM. The fuel pump will only run whilst glow lamps are on,when engine is being cranked or when engine is running. I suggest first of all you take a look at glow relay and check it for burning and bad connections. It is in plastic box behind battery. Sounds like a new fuse box is needed.

You have found the problem methinks. Burnt fuse boxes are a common problem. I know it's a diesel, but check the ignition relay for signs of heating, the diagram under the lid will show you which one it is.:)

ok have checked conections ect and numerous other things but can not get scanner to communicate with vehicle does this mean the main ecu under drivers seat is shot it or has anyone any other idears why scanner just keeps saying cant communicate have now tryed to scanners but same out come

Oftentimes the ODB Socket can get gungy or corroded, try getting some good electrical contact cleaner and an old toothbrush and give it a good scrubbing.

Also, the electrical cabling to the socket can get brittle and break off, the only option for that is to cut off the offending wires and splice in new ones.

It is quite common, try a search on here as there are many reports of it.

ok about had enough of this reange rover every thing we can check we have still no communication to vehicle one guy has said via someone else to reset the key in the door (the 4 left 1 right and so on) but to put a 4 first which i cant understand what he means or does anyone have any other idears or shall i just bin it lol
cheers every one for the help up to now

If the fuse box smells of burning that is likely to be the problem, otherwise it could be loss of sync. A lot of scanners will not work with the P38, you need test book, autologic, hawkeye or faultmate.

If you are going to bin it, I have a nice large bin you can put it in.

Doing the four tuns initially tells the BeCM that the next turns of the key are to be recorded as the EKA code to remobilise the engine....

Do you have the RAVE manuals as this will have the owners manual which describes the EKA procedure?

My bin's closer.

It sounds to me that you haven't yet had a Range Rover expert look at this. There are many mechanics and many fault readers out there but the Rangie was designed at the time when in-car electronics were in their infancy and there are quite a few quirks that are specific to them.
