Hi, after getting the 19J engine from a mate I noticed it had a set of fairly recent Recon injectors in it so I thought id fit them in my 12J so last weekend i swapped them over, and then ive used it this week and it seems to be black smoking a lot when under load, now i know i need to replace the air filter, but am i right in thinking both 12J and 19J use the same injectors:confused::confused:

bit late to be assuming that:doh:

Cheers for that, I still have the old set in the back of the landy, there was nothing really wrong with them, but I thought they looked like the original ones so i thought a referbed st would spray better, I knew i shouldnt have got rid of my injector tester lol,
ill wait till ive changed the air filter, and fuel filter again . as ive done more miles in the last month than it did last year, lol the previous owner only used it as a run around.

they are exactly the same with same injection pressure 135 bar ,serviceable but worn pumps can with new or used injectors sometimes not work as well as new pump and new injectors

I must admit, I had looked on the net and seen that you can buy a set of injectors and they fitted both 2.5NA and 2.5TD so I was thought Id be safe changing them, the only other thing I thought i need to do is check the valve clearence, as Im sure the previous owners wouldnt have had them checked,:D:D

Maybe the old injectors were partially blocked and now you have a decent set you have loads of fuel hence the black smoke, is the air filter okay? have you tried a test drive with filter removed.

The Air filter is in need of replacing, as said earlier, so that will be my first port of call, then go down the rest of the bits
:D

injector pressure is set and maintained with a large spring inside top cap which is remover to adjust set screw underneath, these springs will weaken over time reducing opening pressure allowing excess fuel to enter ,the other thing worth looking at is when you remove injector and look at nozzle you should see clear ring around out side of bottom face of injector where steel washer sits if not gasses can overheat nozzle which reduces hardness of steel leading to wear in nozzle, never fit any where steel washer hasnt done its job
