Its a while since Ive had a 2 1/4 diesel but that isn't how I remember the low pressure system. As previous posts there doesn't seem to be a restrictor screwed into filter head! Also some of the pipework doesn't look like fuel pipe at all. There might be flow diagrams in a manual if you have one. Here's a little pic, it currently is awful going up hills, but i assumed it was due to compression or timing.
red is the flow of fuel to the spill, it constantly flows to the spill.
green is back to the tank.. so it may be flowing that way to the tank.

Fuel system is all back together.
Unfortunally i have a feeling that the very dodgey join in the fuel pipe at the tank end is letting air in, so i'm going to have to replace that before i go any further.
Turning it over sounded promising though!
It is the thick black rubber pipe that was worrying me! I think all the low pressure pipes are nylon as standard, not sure exactly wot yer got!clear stuff is me mucking about using clear pipe to see the flow

Best go back to original set up if you can. Like I say its a while since I had a 2 1/4. Heres a pic of my whats on my 2.5, not a very close up pic Im afraid, but I aint going out in the dark to take one!Looks like high pressure fuel pipe..this thing has err been played with in the past![]()

OK, if I read this correctly, you have the blue which feeds the Injector pump, purple is the feed to filter from the fuel pump and green goes back to the tank.
Why is the red there as all of the flow off can either go directly back to the tank or into an inlet on the filter?
Might I suggest that you explore the possibility of plugging off the unnecessary red pipework, and see if that makes a difference?
All assembled with a new fuel pipe.
When turning over it sounds like the engine is running, all be it not quite at full whack so i presume just air in the system or tweak injector pump timing to get it going.
There will be a lot of air if you have reassembled the system. Bleed the filter thoroughly at the topmost fitting. Then the two screws on the pump, pump lots of diesel through with the lift pump, I put a bucket under, it ruins tarmacAll assembled with a new fuel pipe.

When i just tried turning it over, it sounds like its going to shake the car apart!
I have not done the timing chain.
Smoke was white, maybe getting a little toward grey.
Battery is charging at the moment, was thinking of advancing the pump slightley and giving it a go.
why do you think rings are gone thought youd just rebuilt it ,did you gap rings in bore ?Yet know mine has just done the same thing and im sure this time its the rings gone in the pistons so im either looking for another engine or sourcing a new set of rings![]()
