Hi all - can you help solve or guide me in solveing this problem.
i,ve just bought( privately ) a 1996 N plate tdi Automatic , i,ve only had it one day and its got a problem already.
On the test drive every thing seemed fine , anyway last night took her for a longer drive with the wife and kids , the motor drives fine , ( bit slow till it changes up ) , starts fine etc .
Any way when the engine had done a few miles i started to notice the "oil can" light coming on at idle speed and when slowing down or stopped , it goes out when pulling away and upping the revs .
i,ve checked the oil level and it looks ok .
what could be causeing this to happen
thanks

Darren .

Could be any of 3 things, have listed them below in order of cost (lowest cost first);

1) Wrong oil - incorrect grade could trick the pressure sensor into thinking it has low oil. FIX - change oil and filter.

2) Oil pressure sensor/switch knackered. FIX - change it.

3) Oil circulation pump. Call your local dealer and ask if they still have the kit that fixed the problem with the pump circulation. Purported to be cheap. Otherwise, you might need to get the pump replaced, and that ain't cheap!

If you can, try an oil pressure test to see if it is low. Should also determine whether it is the switch. I've asked a few questions of other Disco owners who had this problem in the past, keep an eye out for replies on this forum, hopefully someone should respond and let us know what they did to eventually fix the issue.

You didn't buy this Disco from Mike in Warfield, did you? :rolleyes:

Not sure where the switch is located, am at work and the manual is at home, plus I've never had THAT problem on my Disco (touching wood)!

One other thing to check, when you have located the switch, is the wiring. Someone else had a similar problem on a Freelander, and there was a small nick in the wire. Trace backwards from the switch, make sure the wiring is blemish free. :)
