As per the title, my steering box is leaking. I believe it's an mot failier? The mot's not until august, so I have time to sort it. What I want to know is what is the best thing to do? do I go for a secondhand one and risk that leaking too, or buy a recon one? if so does anyone know the cheapest place to get a recon power steering box from? and if so, how much are they?

Also how difficault are they to fit? please dont tell me I have to take the wing off, as I've just resprayed my landy.

no you dont have to remove wing but drivers side front wheel recon £120 ish

Sounds mad but if it's all ready leaking then worth a try..... If you add a bit of brake fluid to the steering fluid it will swell the seals and stop The leak. Iv tried it on a friends disco and it's gone from a puddle after work to next to no leak, and it's lasted just over a year now.

Had mine down on my 86 csw about 2 months ago, brought a recon steering box from paddocks for about £190, had it changed, then sent the old one off, then i got a £90 refund.

Anyone tried the stop leak? Iv got a tiny leak so might give it a try.

Thanks guys, I'll deff try the brake frluid thing first then. if not looks like a recon. paddocks are the best way to go by the sound of it.

Ive a leaking steering box too. Is it an MOT failure?

Reason i ask is that i have a service record from previous owner that noted the steering box was leaking in '09. Its had 2 more MOTs since then too?
