Mornin,

Has anyone done a 130 CSW conversion or seen how its done? I know Foleys do them but want to avoid using them.

What I am after is a expedition vehicle where I can sleep in the back while retaining the 2nd row of seats which I don't think would be possible in a 110..

Anyone done any off roading in a 130? Would I struggle to follow a 110 even if I had offset wheels?

You could sleep in there as that link by the other poster shows , but where are you going to put all the stuff that 5 people would need? I found that two and a child was enough to fill the back of a 110 CSW with a RTT to sleep . and an awning to cook under. Its a pain if you have to keep loading or unloading , plus the security risk.
A 110 with two people will generally be at its max laden weight with out going mad with what you decide to take.
A 130 will usually be quite able to follow a 110 , same as a 110 will following a 90 , there will be times that the tightness of a turn , or a ramp over angle will catch you out , when trying to follow the smaller vehicle.
The vehicles will take the usuall trails, roads encountered when expedition used. If you intend doing "offroading" whilst travelling you will be pushing your luck in my opinion , as thats when things can get broken
which can seriously ruin your day when you are relying on the vehicle as your sole transport and home .
Have you though of a 130 HCPU DC , as it wouldnt take much to convert the rear tray and put a hard top on it . I used one in Australia , and was very pleased with it generally , a 300tdi version. HTSH
 
I have slept two in the 110 with ease...have second row seats up during day and pushed forward for sleeping at night...as big as a double bed room wise .

It wouldn't be for 5 people on expeditions just two, I spent 4 weeks in the roof tent in Morocco this year and while they are awesome I don't feel they can stand up to the level of abuse I require and at 2k a pop they aren't cheap to replace either! Very cold to sleep in while we were in Andorra too.

My thinking is that a 130 converted from a DC pickup to a hard top would give me a area to rack out with a bed for 2 an storage above and below and then for expeditions remove the rear seats and chuck everything else there hopefully avoiding the need for anything on the roof (besides a spare wheel)

When I'm not away that leaves me a truck with massive load space plus 5 seats to ferry me n my mates around :)

The alternative would be a 110 van but when I am not away I have no seats for mates same as the 90 I have now..

So do I do that or convert a 130 exactly the same but retain room for the seats too.. Trying to weigh up pros and cons between 130 and 110.. Turning circle and departure angle seem to be the main ones but I am hoping offset wheels and wide arches may solve the turning issue
 
The turning issue , is only noticeable in a few situations , eg turning round on road , in the bush not afactor , the wheel offset will be getting a bit extreme, as they are offset as standard . A 110 for sleeping if you are at all lanky without overhanging front seats is quite snug , JMHE The 130 would be a better bet JMHO

thats my 110! haha, famous.. :p

if i had a 130 id probably do it very different to how i did my 110, theres a lot more room for ideas in a 130, i like the full hard top idea a lot though!

Lol it's nice to stumble across people talking about your landy isn't it :)

Just need to work out how easy it might be to convert a 130 to hard top, I think nene overland and foleys both do conversions but I have no idea on cost.. Guessing it's going to be cheaper to do myself!

Dormobile now do a mod for 110 which keeps the rear seats and gives you a double bed and kitchen unit, mine was the prototype. They can sell flat packed.
