Well I started yesterday, over a cup of tea we looked at the 110 and thought where to start, never done anything like this before.

We figured taking off the wings and removing anything connected to the bulkhead would be a good start then moving onto the body bolts, was hoping to have the body lifted off the chassis by end of play.

Bulkhead is worse than I thought, so is the chassis, body bolts are seized solid so will be ground off.

Parts to be fitted, galvanised chassis, new bulkhead, new windscreen seal, headlight surrounds, new exhaust rear section, any bushes that need doing, seat box, gearbox shrouds, wading kit and extended breather kit for the snorkel, all bolts to be replaced with new, much more I'm sure.

A few pics from yesterday,

Pics not in order obviously haha, body now ready to come off today so off in a mo to get started.

Engine was out last month so new clutch already fitted, flywheel, complete engine gasket kit including crank seals, new timing belt kit, all new filters and fluids, new radiator and battery so don't need to touch the engine etc just a quick check over once transferred.

Haha long day guys, we had missed some body bolts then had issues with the wiring loom and plenty of other things, only a few pics from body removal as by the time we had engine out it was dark so first thing tomorrow there will be more.
Hopefully tomorrow is a turning point and the new chassis will start coming together.

Didn't really think it would take this long but the kind soul who under sealed it has really slowed us down, every bolt has to be replaced on the chassis, the whole lot, split in down pipe and back box rotton so being replaced, shocker top bushes, panhard rod bushes, transfer box bushes, nearly all need replacing, fuel tank sender, brake lines, hydraulic clutch line, gearbox crossmember, transfer box output seal, power steering box maybe, also the high pressure lines for power steering, all sorts of clips etc, much more work than I thought here, planned on 3-4 days but looks like it could go into next week now.
More pics tomorrow

Well it's been a stressful couple of days, don't think I realised the just how much work and money this would take, turning into a full nut and bolt rebuild, the under sealing has made every bolt impossible to take out and lost us a day at least, had to grind the lot off, now having every nut bolt and washer replaced, all bushes being replaced, rear shocks, fuel tank badly blistered so being replaced, high pressure master cylinder clutch pipe, full exhaust including down pipe, fuel tank sender, wing extension clips, all fuel line and brake line clips, the list goes on, anyone thinking of doing this knowing little about the vehicle like me beware and have a decent budget, reckon I will be looking at 3k to complete.

A few pics, now rolling on the new chassis.

Used some black hammerite to tidy all the brackets and rusty looking parts up, still perfectly serviceable just thought I'd at least give the parts a clean and paint.

Old chassis

As you can see a bit of a mess, new chassis is fully galvanised but looks nicely weathered so leaving it like that, if it was fresh and shiney it would be painted but I don't think it will stand out too much.

Doing a good job there, Old chassis looks a terrible mess

Is the chassis your fitting a old chassis some one has had galvanised?
Or from the likes of Richards chassis.

right i am going to take my gearbox x-member off and check behind it lol

thats chassis is shagged!!

Atleast when its done you will have an awesome land rover that should last a long long time

It's a brand new chassis, no previous work, not sure what company it's from but fully galvanised from new then been stored for 3 years, yes the old one isn't great but found the chassis number which is the original as is the engine number so not all bad, number will be cut out before it goes for scrap.

I'd be careful taking it out haha, if it's anything like mine I doubt I'd have got it back in, got a new cross member for £33 as mine is rotton also from the inside.

changed ma gearbox last month took the crossmember off and think the only think holding it to the chassis was Schultz and waxoil:rolleyes:

Slow going today, welder couldn't make it so couldn't get engine mounts fitted, just doing bits and pieces, while having a look we found play in both rear wheel bearings, both previously adjusted so thought we would take them out and check them, both seals leaking so transmission fluid had leaked into the bearings, both needed replacing plus seals, shoes were worn out, cylinders leaking, drums to wear limit etc etc, more bills today then, replaced the lot, new fuel tank ordered and comes tomorrow, by end of play tomorrow hopefully the body should be close to refitting, then it's bulkhead change time.

New springs also fitted after this pic, bugger to get on.

nice seats.

scary looking chassis, I think at the moment, mine is a case of hoping for the best rather than owt else

They came out of a friends WR1, really nice seats, mint in fact, I will lose the drivers storage box unless I make another way of access and the battery box, but it's a new battery so if I need to get in its a few bolts, hey ho.
They just need to be mounted around the same height as the originals or lower, if it can be done I may have a go and see if I like them, can always swap back.

Hope your chassis is better than mine, amazing how people think under seal and whatever else helps in anyway, hate the stuff, they still rot, you just can't see it.

yeah i reckon its worth preserving a chassis with cavity wax inside but leaving the outside bare or painted and clean it regularly then you can see when things are going wrong

Agreed, a nice clean or painted chassis which is kept that way is better in my eyes, the underseal/wax oil just ruined every part on mine and made a simple job a nitemare and rotted anyway, waste of time and looks dreadful, also quite flammable if your welding
