Hi, just woundering if anyone knows of a suitable swing away spare wheel carrier that could be fitted onto my 2004 td5 110 double cab.

any help with this would be much appriciated,

Dave

anything other than that one that costs about 80 quid - it falls to bits if you do any off roading. I've got a 110 crew cab too and still haven't worked out the best way to deal with the spare - as it seems to make anything just that too big for the loadbed eh? I looked into a bonnet mount, but you're not allowed on newer vehicles, so it'll probaby be a decent heavy duty one like a mantec, or some oz made thing.

Just not that 80 quid one.

When yer say "not allowd" why's that then?

i thought the only reason yer **** fit one wer cos o the weight o the wheel would cause the bonnet to touch the top o the engine.

There is a place that manufactures a mount for the Td5, it bolt to the hindge area and extends right down to where the slam panel is so it spreads the weight

Can't remember where I read it but it was an official site - vehicles over a certain age shouldn't have front mounted spares.. Looked up my links but cant find it.

Saying that I may have dreamt it. cliff barnes-like

I know - I saw one the other day on an 07 plate witha bonnet spare.

If i'm talking as much shoit, then just buy an old defender bonnet and fit the genuine wheel carrier (£50 or so paddocks) or get a bonnet with one mounted. It'll fit.

I may just swap my ninetys and 110 bonnets over to check.

talking of side mounted - what parts do you need? Can you just get a spare carrier off a disco and put a huge load spreading plate the other side of your ally bodyside? I quite fancy that on Edith as a second spare.

thanks for the help folks! but i think i'm goiong to try one of the standard swing away wheel carriers from paddocks! what do you think? do you think it will fit on ok, as i think it is really designed for hardtops.

i've had one er them on me truck cab / soft top fer 2 years. it's fine - no probs other than yer visibility is a bit restricted when reversing.
