Can anyone tell me which throttle body will be fitted to my 2001 1.8? I keep seeing write-ups on upgrading the TB to the alloy 52mm one, but also I've read that the 52mm one is standard on 1.8 Freebies. Can anyone clarify whether Freebies have 48, 52 or 56 mm TB's?
 
It's easy enough to measure what's on you car;) 48mm is more than adequate for the power the 1.8 fitted to the Freelander makes.

I am thinking of doing the same, have already fitted a K & N Filter to my 1.8 Sport & did notice a difference......more air intake = better response to the engine....some 1.8s have a plastic throttle body:confused: but some have the aluminium type....fitting a larger dia throttle body may make a difference but wont do any harm.....

The standard throttle body for 1.8 Freelanders is the 48mm, I fitted the 52mm a few months ago and the difference is amazing. My fuel consumption has gone from 22mpg around Sheffield's hills to 28mpg, it pulls a higher gear and feels more responsive.
 
It went from 22 mpg to 28 mpg, mine does 27 mpg on and around the same hills.

still with the standard throttle body.

I wonder what it would do with the 52 mm on it!

Jimbo.....where did you get your 52mm from.....was it an MG?

Is it just a straight swap over......quite a few 52mm on ebay but rather expensive for a canny Scot:lol::lol:

A failing throttle pot will cause low power and heavy fuel consumption!! So if that came with the doner TB that's the answer. I can't see the TB making a huge difference on a standard but healthy Freelander 1.8.

So, mine must be a good standard one and his was a good 52mm one that replaced a worn standard 48mm!

That's what I reckon ;) I know of lots of 1.8 MG ZS owner's that have swapped the standard 48mm TB for the 52mm TB from the 160 VVC engine. Most report no difference at all unless the engine is modified already!!

could've saved a few bob by just getting a good standard replacement then, I was toying with the idea til I saw this fred, cheers Nodge ;)

If you are swapping the Plastic 48mm TB to the 52mm ally one off the 160 VVC engine because you are after power you will be disappointed. You would do better fitting a proper induction kit and strait through exhaust. If you are fitting a replacement because your plastic one had warped or cracked then it makes sense to fit the bigger one, especially if you plan on future engine mods!!
