Hi all,

Hoping I can get some advice please.

I have an 04 d2. Currently if I do a motorway run, say 30 miles, the clutch has 2/3rds travel. A lot of excess travel. After a rest and some short runs the clutch is fine. Continual short runs around town etc are fine. Travel is 1/3 and all good.

I had this about a year ago and my garage replaced clutch and dmf and this was expensive.

Could it be the clutch again? Any other likely suspect?

First thing to do would be to fully replace the fluid in the clutch hydraulic system. It could be water in the fluid which as a liquid doesn't compress as much as when it heats up and becomes a vapour.
Brake/clutch fluid is hygroscopic, that is it can absorb moisture from the atmosphere and when there's enough it can condense into a liquid.

Ok thanks for the reply. Good suggestion.

I have some dot4 as recently completed a diy full service and intended to do brakes as part of this but passed on this when weather turned! Will try and do the clutch (and may as well do brakes) this weekend and see how it is following this.

won't hurt to bleed the slave cylinder as first move the clutch and brakes share the same reservoir
