Took my rangie up into the hills today and i noticed while skidding in snow that its only running 2wd.

Everything on the trucks working fine but dont know why its not working rear wheel drive

any ideas?

Depending on the year your viscous coupling may not be working properly. I'm pretty sure you have 4 wheel drive. Try finding a suitable spot and stand on the loud pedal and see if you can spin all 4 up, that'll tell you one way or another.

yes its 1991 and it is 4wd. prop shaft is rotating when driving but know rear wheel traction.

viscous coupling then maybe you think?

prop shaft is rotaing all the way to final drive unit. so must be something at the final drive unit or rear drive shaft?

if you put transfer box in neutral can you rotate prop by hand

just been out and put the transfer box in neutral and tried rotating the prop by hand and no luck.

ok that means all appears to be ok at the rear end cos if a half shaft or dif was caput you would be able to rotate , it does your transfer box have diff lock setting on it or is it a viscous one
