hi there, i am looking to convert due to a heavy duty melt down on the EAS!! anyway its looks fairly simple except for the electronic parts, what do i have to remove in order to get rid of the warning messages on the dash? also does anyone know of any problems i may come across???

Look at othere threads on this, if you order a kit of coils it should come with the instructions to fool the ECU.

Still think it's better to keep the EAS though.

Unless all of the components of the EAS have failed at the same time there is nothing that cannot be fixed for far less than the price of a spring convertion. EAS when working is much better than springs.

Couldnt have put it better myself. And by keeping your air spring you stay on the right side of your insurance company.

The thing was designed to work and work well with eas, so why downgrade to coils? Why not fix the fault rather than create more problems just to fit coils?

And as already said, you will have to notify your insurers that the vehicle is modified. Might be an idea to speak to them now & see if they will 1. Insure a modified vehicle 2. How much extra they may want to charge you.

They'll defo pump up the insurance, they're always looking for an excuse:mad2:, but to answer the original question any good spring conversion kit should come with an ECU bypass cable to eliminate the fault messages, if you go cheapo and don't get one, they're available on ebay individually.

Personally the EAS is much better when working as it should, far more flexible and ultimately safer, because the car will be at the right height for the situation, particularly relevant at speed because with springs you'll probably find you're centre of gravity permanently raised causing instability at speed:crazy_driver::rolly:.

If you're mechanically able to do the spring conversion, then fixing the EAS shouldn't be beyond you either, it just seems a more daunting task because its outside the norm:5bsmash:.

I have one converted to coil and it works for me, but I bought it like that and I don't know how it feels to drive one with the air suspension working. I took it off road last weekend and I did have any problem at all.

Springs shouldn't make much difference off road, fact it could be even better if you go the whole extreme route with a dislocation system etc. my concerns about switching to springs are more about road use, because as with any fixed ride height system it is a compromise. What gives you enough ground clearance for off-road will enevitably lead to a higher centre of gravity/roll centre and give a more unstable ride, where as the EAS drops the car at speed to preserve stabilty. If you don't use motorways much then springs could be ok, but I do about 50/50 motorway/ lowspeed/off-road, meaning that maintaining high speed stabilty has a higher priority for me.

Agree. I would like to put the air suspension back to work but I don't know if the EAS is ok. You know, for some reason the previews owner change it to coil, right? So I don't want to spend more than $400 and then found that there some other stuff that I will have to replace to make it work.

You guys have a way to test it even if I don't have the air springs?

Hmm, that might be tricky - you need to have the system pressurised to test it.

Is it just the springs that have been removed? Are the height sensors still installed? What about the rest of the components? I suppose you could try and find some second hand airbags so that you can check the rest of the system - you see them on ebay occasionally, but you'd probably end up having to replace them twice.

Can you not ask the previous owner why he took it off? It's usually because of a fault, but they're not too hard to diagnose and fix.

I bought it from a dealer, so I did not meet the previews owner. I think the compresor is working fine cause it seems to me that I have heard something in that area of the engine compartment. But to be honest I have not take some time to verify if the tubing is there or anything else. When you remove the tube from the spring, the connector does not seal the tube?

Unfortunately the air lines aren't self-sealing and I wouldn't have thought you'd hear the compressor if the EAS ECU has been removed or bypassed properly, so either the noise you're hearing is something else, or the jobs only been half done anyway! Do you get EAS faults appearing on the dash?

If the car came via the trade then aren't the previous owners details on the reg docs?

I was looking for the front tubing today and opened the EAS box in the engine compartment and it was empty. So I gest I will let the RR with the coil sprigs. jejeje
