I agree with chaser, you may as well get them done. I can be 99% sure it's the ball joints and the wishbones are only about £45 each to buy. With new bushes you can be looking at all the parts you need for about £100. Don't hesitate in getting an angle grinder on the old bolts that are part of the balls though, they're a bastard to get off. All other bolts will come out a doddle.

I had the same knocking noise last year in my TD4,R/H Side when turning a bend.Then a few months down the line it turned into a violent shaking when cornering and going straight.Right hand drive shaft went on me.Had a new one put in and have never had a knock since.
