also check all the lights on the back, I had a dodgey bulb/earth and If I had the lights on I could take the key out and the car still ran.. the engine only stopped if I turned the lights off

also worth a check engine harness behind block i have had one of these come dislodged, melt, the alternator main wire short out the white ignition wires keep the engine running (i actually stalled it in the end) and then promptly caught fire. Luckily for me my spanners were in the battery tray and my cheapo 2 kg just and i mean just put out the fire. All because 2 poxy 50 pence pieces of plastic were broken.

when you turn off the ignition off, if your gauges turn off it's stop solinoid, if they don't the ignition is staying on!!!

thank you! dials all turn off, solenoid ordered £15, hopefully this will fix it !!!

WOT this is a 200tdi they run on 1 wire

Yes and in most cases its because the inside of the pump - face cam etc has started to break up.The swarf is attracted to the stop solenoid as its an electromagnet which jams it up so the return spring is not strong enough to shut the fuel off.

he is spot on and if you keep running like it it will in time snap the timing belt because the pump gets that hard to turn
i got a 300 engine for my 90 that had 2 belts in 3 months in the end he got a new engine did a rebuild and at the same tiime had the pump and injectors done (no some one who can do them on the side) when he striped it down the cam and roler breaking up
