Get a 12S (grey socket) and you need a HD permanent live feed direct from the battery to a ignition switched relay (alternator W connection is best) to run the fridge. and lights etc.

isnt there a plug somewhere? there is for the lights and indicators, according to rave!

sounds like a lot of hassle, wonder if its best to just use 240 hook ups and keep the fridge on gas???

As Irish has said, run a 4mm or 6mm direct from the battery fused at the battery to the rear. The accesory socket in the boot is switched, so fit a 30 amp relay near the accessory socket, feed one side of the coil from the live of the accessory socket, take the other side of the coil to earth. Put your 4mm cable to the common of the contacts, take the feed for the caravan from the other contact. This gives you a switched 12 volt supply for the caravan that won't flatten your battery unless you leave the ignition on without the engine running
While I was doing this, I modified my accessory socket to be permanantly live so I can sit a solar panel on the parcel shelf to keep the P38 battery charged when I'm away. You will need the 12 volt switched to keep your fridge going while you are on the move.

The lights and indicators connector lie behind the R/H trim and can be reached through the filler release hatch. The other 12S circuits are behind the left hand trim near where the CD changer lives.

Given your the van you have bought is pre 1998, it would be worth fitting a proper split charge realy to the car.

That will give you an output for the fridge, one for charging the caravan battery on the move and one for general 12v power in the van.

Done mine, no trouble at all. Use the RR connectors for the lights, indicators etc and the switched 4mm feed does the fridge on the move and the charging. Simple, and the clever RR even knows when you have a caravan/trailer connected and lights a little flashing trailer sign on the dash when the indicators are used

gav see if you can get hold of the proper landrover caravan socket kit,it has the socket all the wiring,split charge relay,and it is all plug and play i got mine from duckworth landrover via fleabay for £17.00, brand new old stock.
the part no. is STC 8875 AB,it s called a split charge kit
