Hi,

Range rover p38 4.6 HSE 2000

on acceleration there is a metalic ticking noise !!!
I belive this is what they call pinking ???

I have found that with No 6 lead disconnected the noise goes away,

any ideas if im right, and what pinking is, and what might be wrong,

How do i cure this ?????????????

Scott

In theory it shouldnt be able to diesel as the knock sensor for that bank should back off the timing on that cyl to stop it before you can even hear it.Taking the lead off stops it firing - obviously, but the noise could be one of many things, even down to a flapping manifold gasket where it bolts to the head.Could be a loose liner, allsorts of things.
Without an experienced ear listening to it you can only really guess at it.

maybe knock sensor has come off, loose or malfuntioned? or it could be one of the other millions of possibilities!

So, does this knock sensor cure the symptom or the problem ??

does this work all the time to stop pinking, or only when there is a problem ???
