having problems with my discovery. ive tried 4 different heavy duty batteries on it and tested each one so battery is not the issue, the problem im havign is it wont ever start, it wont wind over properly, it clicks and struggles, if i put a second source to it i.e jump pack or jump leads from another vehicle it starts no problems, it bumps of no problems and when its been running a while it will start again if switched off, but after a a few hours it wont start again. theres no drain on the battery ive tested that.

whats everybodies opinions?
im thinking the starter requires re bushing (its taking to much load to start)
but would like to know if anyone else knows of a common problem or past experience of similar things.

when ive had this on other cars in the past i always used jumpleads to act as an earth by running one from the block to the battery neg , usually gives a quick indicator as to where the problem lies if it is an earth problem

never thought of that. cheers pal.

I would get a multi meter on the glow plugs as well, sounds similar to my problem, especially when cold, but jump from secondary battery always fired it up.
Changed glow plugs, no further problems

or

Take them out to test, by applying 12 v across them, they should heat up enough to smoke WD40

hiya mate, sound like the problem i just had, removed all the earths and cleaned em. put them back on but still the same, took off the starter, soaked it in wd40, emptyed it all out and it works as good as new now ;-)

there all brand new mate and ive checked them all. im thinkin its either a bad connection wether that be positive or earth or the bushes in starter. in which case il'l strip starter and turn some brass bushes and re fit. will have to get it done in next few days its ****ing me off sat there, need to make an exhaust for it as well and then tax it.
oh and i got 2 tyres that keep going down since its been stood haha. having to blow them up every 3 days. im hoping when it goes back into use they will sort them selves out.

Are the tyres on alloys? It could be that the rims are corroded on the inside and air is leaking from between the tyre and the rim. You local independent (not Kwik Fit, they wont do it) should be able to take the tyres off, clean up the rims with an air powered wire brush, paint some magic sealant on the rim and then put the tyres back on. This will cost you £10 or £20, if it doesn't work there are people who will refurbish alloys, but it would cost you £300 or £400 to do all four rims
