Can anyone help me to determine what size box is needed to fit one of these under seat ECM's into?
Can anyone out there measure up their ECM, so i can get a box to seal the bloody thing into - I dont mean an ice cream box, but a proper IP67 rated submersible box.

What about cooling?
Doesn't it need to radiate heat through the casing?
Sounds like a good idea though.

Without wishing to :nospamhere:, guys - my company makes cables - we are going to be offering extension cables, but one of the options is to have the ECM in a waterproof box as well. The cables will be offered in 2 lengths.
Hence the Q - I need to know wot size box to fit for that option.

That int the point. Not everyone wants to put it that high. Some peeps want to fit it on the bulkhead or other places, where a sealed container becomes more appropriate. I have heard of one guy that fitted the ECM into the roof, rolled the car in a foot of water and fried it!:hysterically_laughi
I int arguing with ya, Griff - I just need the sizes.

Not here to argue daft. I would just personally put it up high and allow it to breath. Like shifty said, does it not need to be able to cool etc?

You may get more luck searching ECU rather than ECM to.

I had a look on google fo you, but no joy

I take your point Griff - and that is why we will be making them in two lengths and with and without the option of a box. All options covered, I hope. But we have had requests for the boxed version. Oh - and axletwister4x4 are cheaper than devon 4x4 ;).

not sure if you have cables sorted, but i found this:

You want 2x Econoseal 36 Harness @ 48euros
and 2x Econoseal 36 PCB @ 13.89 euros

You will need to straighten out pins on PCB connector and solder on wires. I would then seal in epoxy resin to make it waterproof and good for vibrations etc.

HTH?

and apparently the original harness will stretch to the cubby box. people have been putting them in and under these

erm - not sure you are reading this fred proper, Griff.

We know how to make the cables - it is just the size of the ECM that I need.

:praise:

sorry cable guru, just checking as i came across it whilst looking for your ECU size. Thought it might come in handy.

cant say - wud be spamming - but keep an eye out on fleabay - or PM.

do ya want one then?

na, I got a better engine... 300

dont need to waterproof any electrics. Just interested in your venture. I have also looked at waterproofing a TD5 as i nearly bought one instead of my 300.

FFS Griff - I thought yu wuz gonna go measure me up one ;)

£225 to make some wires a bit longer !!!!!
Bargain of the century - NOT.

Hi All,
I had a couple of alternative ideas as there is plenty of other electrics to suffer in the under seat boxes and I for one wouldn't fiddle with the wiring owing to the increasing susceptability to interference and resistance losses at the connectors:

  1. A float switch in the bottom of the under seat box connected to a bilge pump & alarm. Should be small cheap and easy to fit.
  2. An air pump (large fish tank style) to pressurise the box slightly and therefore keep the water out, this could be switched on by a float switch mounted on the side of the box under the chassis, but out of harms way.
Otherwise this might do it
OKW | Enclosures and Fans | Metal and Plastic Enclosures | Painted Aluminium Boxes | Painted Die Cast Aluminium Boxes

just some ideas... ;)
